Development of Semi-Dwarf Long- and Medium-Grain Cultivars

Semi-dwarf experimental rice lines have been identified with high grain yield, stress tolerance, and good grain quality. Lines are in all stages of development from segregating populations to breeder head rows. New sources of yield, disease, and stress resistance are being used as parents in the breeding program. Two new culti-vars, 'Medark' and 'Cybonnet', medium- and long-grain, respectively, were released to seed producers in 2003 to 2004. Semi-dwarf rice cultivars offer options for Arkansas riceproducers.
