Effect of stubble shaving daincha intercropping and 'N' management of sugarcane ratoon crop.

Field experiments were conducted in Tamil Nadu, India during 2002-04 to investigate the effect of stubble shaving, daincha [Sesbania aculeata] incorporation and N management on the yield and quality of ratoon sugarcane (cv. CoSi 95071). The treatments consisted of 12 combinations of stubble shaving and non-stubble shaving, 3 levels of N (75, 100 and 125%) and 3 levels of daincha intercropping. Stubble shaving with daincha incorporation and 100% (275 kg) N application recorded significantly highest cane yield of 131.3 t/ha. This treatment also recorded the highest sugar yield of 17.2 t/ha and a commercial cane sugar percentage of 13.10.
