IGEM YOUNG PERSONS NETWORK VISITS THE CENTRE FOR ALTERNATIVE TECHNOLOGY

Last month, the IGEM young person's network (YPN) and Engineers without Borders (EWB) from the Imperial College, London visited the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Powys, mid-Wales.Formed in 1973 and with over 7 acres of hands-on displays and gardens, the eco-centre is dedicated to teaching and demonstrating practical solutions for sustainability. It has one of the largest ranges of installed renewable systems anywhere in the UK, a portfolio that includes photovoltaic (PV) cells, solar-thermal, biomass combined heat and power (CHP), air source heat pumps, a range of small to large wind turbines, a micro-grid and the centre's own off-mains water supply.
