Maize is one of the major cereals commonly used in swine rations. It has a higher energy content than other cereals. Due to its value as human feed in some under developed countries and also its use as feed for other livestock, there is an increase demand for this grain. Because of the chronic shortage of maize, efforts have been made to find, how millets which are grown in India in large quantities can be used as a substitute for maize.
