A REPORT ON THE OUTBREAK OF PPR IN GOATS OF RANCHI DISTRICT OF JHARKHAND

Peste-des-petits ruminants is a viral disease of goats and sheep caused by morbillivirus of paramyxoviridae family. The virus has close antigenic relationship with Rinderpest (Radostits et al., 2000). After control of Rinderpest in the country, emergence and outbreak of PPR since 1994 in goats and sheep population is alarming and is a serious threat to the growing goat - industry in India. The outbreak of PPR now is a regular feature in different parts of the country since 1994 (Nayak et al., 1997; Rana et al., 1998; Anjaneyalu and James, 1999).
