The high-temperature mechanical properties of a powder metallurgically produced Ti-47Al-4(Nb, Mn, Cr, Si, B) (at. percent) alloy characterized by a very fine and homogeneous near gamma microstructure (d=0.9 mu m) were studied in the temperature range of 890 to 1100 deg C. The unique microstructure was accomplished by a special processing route. Gas atomized alloy powder was compacted by hot isostatic pressing and then forged at a relatively low temperature of 850 deg C. The material exhibits superplastic properties at parameters which are attractive for technical applications. At 1000 deg C a tensile elongation of 920 percent was achieved at a low level of cavitation.
