At its Almhult works in Sweden, Stena Aluminiumhas successfully commissioned thehigh-speed slag cooler HSC supplied by HertwichEngineering, Austria. The new plant allowsStena to recovery up to 10% of the metallicaluminium contained in the dross. TheHSC developed by Stena and Hertwich, hasthe capacity to cool up to five tonnes of dross to below 450 °C in less than 15 minutes. Inconventional processes this takes severalhours. The recovered aluminium is directlyrecirculated into the smelting process.
