Global alumina demand will outstrip supply in 2016 and 2017 as smelter demand for the raw material increases, Metal Bulletin reports, referring to a report from Australia's department of industry, innovation and science (DIIS). The global alumina market is expected to see a 4m tonne deficit in 2016, with alumina consumption expected to increase 3% year-on-year to 116m tonnes, tracked by a 3% increase in supply to 112m tonnes.
