Baucus Foresees No Opposition To ITC Nominee Broadbent, Quick Action

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) said today (May 8) he does not expect any opposition to the confirmation of Meredith Broadbent to be a member of the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), a role he said is important to combating violations of U.S. intellectual property rights (IPR) by China. Baucus also said that he hopes to move to a vote soon, but declined to give details on the timing. "We're going to move as quickly as we can," Baucus told Inside US-China Trade following a nomination hearing that featured Broadbent and two officials nominated to serve as assistant secretaries in the Treasury Department. "I don't foresee any opposition." Broadbent was nominated by President Obama in November to serve on the ITC for a term expiring June 16, 2017. She would replace current ITC Chairman Deanna Tanner Okun, whose term as a commissioner expired on June 16, 2008. ITC commissioners with an expired term serve until a replacement is confirmed by the Senate. Okun's term as chairman expires on June 16, 2012.
