The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has formed an alliance of lumber consumers in part to counter what it says is a push by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to secure a cap on Canadian lumber exports to the U.S. under a new softwood lumber agreement, according to NAHB federal legislative director Suzanne Beall. "USTR is advocating for a supply cap in the next agreement," she told Inside U.S. Trade on April 12. "NAHB is concerned whether U.S. producers would be able to meet the housing supply demand if an aggressive supply cap were to be put in place."
