Aiming For Deal Under Obama, TTIP Negotiators Pledge Faster Tariff Talks

Chief negotiators from the United States and European Union doubled down on their commitment to conclude the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) during the Obama administration and said they will intensify discussions on their second exchange of tariff offers in order to complete that goal. "We believe it is important to try and finish these negotiations during President Obama's presidency. To that, we will need to use our time with maximum efficiency," Dan Mullaney, the U.S. chief negotiator on TTIP said during a press call on Friday (Oct. 23) at the close of the 11th round of negotiations here. "We know that the next four months are going to be important to our hope of completing TTIP during the Obama administration," he added. In order to reach that goal, Mullaney indicated that intensive discussions will begin on the revised market access offers prior to the next round of talks, which he said will take place soon after the start of next year.
