FSIS Postpones Visit To Discuss China Poultry Exports, U.S. Meat Exports

U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has put off a mid-week meeting in China to discuss a pending decision by USDA to allow Chinese plants to process raw poultry exported from approved sources in the United States, Canada and Chile for export to the U.S., as well as U.S. meat and poultry exports to China, according to an FSIS source. U.S. meat and poultry exports face a number of barriers in China, and U.S. meat industry groups have long viewed progress on the rule allowing Chinese processed chicken exports to the U.S. as a tradeoff for China opening its market to U.S. beef, pork and poultry exports (Inside U.S. Trade, Oct. 28, 2011).
