USTR Announces Japan To Ease 20-Month Age Limit For Beef On Feb. 1

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative this week formally announced that it has sealed an agreement with Japan that will allow exports of U.S. beef from cattle less than 30 months of age to enter that Asian market starting today (Feb. 1). Since 2006, Japan has refused to accept U.S. beef exports from cattle more than 20 months of age, and U.S. government officials as well as industry stakeholders have long pressed Japan to roll back this market access restriction.
