摘要

Groups representing major U.S. technology companies this week urged the Obama administration to work with the European Union to protect the viability of an agreement allowing lawful trans-Atlantic data transfers in the wake of revelations surrounding U.S. government digital surveillance activities on foreign citizens. They say part of the effort should include relaxing the gag orders imposed on private companies when they receive information orders from the government. If firms were allowed to disclose just how many requests they receive from intelligence agencies, it might ease public worry over the scope of the surveillance, they argue in an Aug. 20 letter.
