Brady Calls For Bold Trade Agenda, Including EU Trade Deal, Fast-Track

House Ways and Means trade subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) late last week called on the Obama administration to develop an active trade agenda for its second term that includes pursuing trade and investment deals with major trading partners like the European Union and assessing the value of agreements with others as well. In a Nov. 16 speech, Brady proposed that the U.S. launch a negotiation for a comprehensive trade agreement with the EU, for which he said there is growing support among U.S. exporters and importers. Strengthening and deepening the bilateral U.S. and EU relationship will not be easy, but provides enormous potential gains, Brady said. In addition, he said the two sides should work to "come up with a way" to resolve longstanding trade disputes, in an apparent reference to disagreements over sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
