摘要

The National Association of Manufacturers and the American Farm Bureau Federation late last week rebutted claims by 42 U.S. state attorneys general that the Trans - Pacific Partnership (TPP) and future trade agreements could put at risk their ability to regulate tobacco for health reasons. Dale Moore, executive director of public policy for the Farm Bureau, and Linda Dempsey, NAM vice president for international economic affairs, argued in a Feb. 21 letter that legitimate public health regulations are already protected by traditional trade agreement provisions and that the attorneys general, in a previous letter, did not identify any instance in which a legitimate public health regulation was actually removed or scaled back.
