An urban bus having the features of low emission and energy saving has been developed. This bus is equipped with diesel-electric parallel hybrid system consisting of a TI diesel engine, a very thin AC motor fitted in the flywheel housing, a compact inverter, a buck-boost converter, and Ni-MH batteries. The following results were obtained; a large reduction of fuel consumption has been achieved, and this new hybrid system is in accordance with the new short-term exhaust emission regulation.
