Change Will Move ISA Forward

"Change is inevitable and is healthy," 2006 ISA President Ken Baker told volunteers at October's ISA EXPO 2005 in Chicago (then president-elect). Citing the popular business tome, Who Moved My Cheese, Baker said ISA's "cheese has been moved in the past few years, and we need to adapt to find the new sources of our cheese to deal with what motivates people to be members of an engineering society in this century," he said. ISA must adapt to the ways professionals access information, to global business operations, and to both greater diversity and polarity. ISA already is addressing these issues. For instance, the newly established positioning statement, "Setting the Standard for Automation," clarifies the Society's core competencies: standards, certification, education and training, publishing, and conferences and exhibits.
