In a recent issue of the Journal, Abbasi et al (1) presented an article entitled "Cardiometabolic risk factors and obesity: does it matter whether BMI or waist circumference is the index of obesity?", which showed an association between measures of obesity and cardiometabolic risk. This association was observed through the relation of both BMI and waist circumference with systolic blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol. First, we commend the authors for presenting important results regarding the association of easily obtained measures of weight status with cardiometabolic risk. However, we believe there are some additional considerations that should be mentioned.
