In line its preventive policy, the French steel Federation(FFA)hascommitted itself to a 15/100 reduction of CO_2 emissions and a 10/100reduction of total emissions by the year 2000 based on 1990 figures.This voluntary agreement is representative of Usior's proactiveapproach to environmental protection, in the context of sustainabledevelopment. The story behind the signing of a voluntary agreement bythe FAA, and the agreement's basic principles, are set out in thisarticle, which also addresses additional ways of arriving atsustainable development that might be explored.
