In order to assist designers, engineers and decision makers to make better informed decisions, it is necessary for them to perform LCA studies and economical assessments in the early stage of product or system design. For using LCA as a method of comparing the existing systems with those under development, it is necessary to collect and use development and planning data. By means of this prospective approach, LCA can help them to enlarge today's evaluation and decision making decisively. Examples of LCA application to automotive engineering (part, recycling system and fuel cell vehicle) are presented in this paper.
