New zinc(II) complex 1 with three different ligands: acetyloacetonate, tri-tert-butoxysilanethiolate and neutral 2-isopropylimidazole has been obtained and characterized by X-ray diffraction. It is the first example of a mononuclear zinc(II) complex mimicking the active site of farnesyl transferase. (2-Isopro-pylimidazole)bis(acetylacetonato)zinc(II) 2 is also described as an intermediate product of the reaction leading to the formation of 1.
