Paper consumes the majority of global precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) production. While the market for satellite PCC plants in woodfree uncoated paper is now quite mature in the west, and in North America particularly, there remains considerable room for expansion, both regionally and in other paper types. This feature reviews the current extent of PCC usage in paper, its attributes versus competing pigments, and the areas of greatest potential for further growth.
