PSA Peugeot Citroen's new DJ5 TED diesel is, like its DJ5T predecessor, a 2446 cc turbocharged engine but which has direct fuel injection instead of the previous precombustion chamber technology. The TED also has two values per cylinder and one overhead camshaft. The decision to pursue this technology was made in November 1992; the engineering design process was begun in February 1993, and production was begun in October 1996. The engine is built at the Francaise de Mecanique plant in Douvrin, northern France.
