It is rare for a new car to perform badly in the European New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) tests these days. The BS6 saloon, made by the Chinese OEM Brilliance, is a notable exception. Even the side impact test managed to buckle the driver's safety cell. The one-star rating is unlikely to endear the brand to family-minded buyers. At the other end of the scale, there is far more competition. Cars with five-star adult occupant scores are becoming common, although NCAP's range of test subjects is not comprehensive.
