IM: What have been the main trends in industrial minerals processing over the past decade? What technological advancements have been made? BW: Comminution is the most important unit operation in mineral processing. It is also the most energy intensive operation and one in which poor performance has a marked effect on downstream operations. I believe that the next few years will see a revolution in comminution technology. At the beginning of the 20th century the advent of rod and ball mills led to the demise of stamp mills, and rod and ball mills then dominated 20th century grinding circuits.
