THE CHINESE CHAMBER of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals Imports and Exporters (CCCMC) has announced that the non-metallurgical bauxite export licence fee will increase to RMB300/tonne (around 44 dollars/tonne) this year, up from a figure of RMB135/ tonne (20 dollars/tonne) in 2009. This is in line with the Chinese government's stated policy of drawing in its domestic resources to produce value-added products for export, rather than raw materials. Prices for several key industrial minerals are expected to lift in the first quarter of 2010, owing to either increased licence fees, continued supply problems, or both.
