Tea buyers in Delhi told the delegation of the Tea Board comprising 21 members from North East and South India led by the Chief Regional Executive (South) of the Tea Board, Mr Vikram Kapur, that the Board should aggressively counter the negative advertising by producers of other commodities showing tea in poor light. The delegation was intended as a follow up of the dialogue between the sellers and the upcountry buyers initiated at the national convention on south Indian teas in Coimbatore last year. So, there could be no two opinion on the need to counter the adverse publicity for tea. Even in his report on the tour, Mr Kaput recorded: "A uniform refrain was that the domestic promotion to boost the sluggish demand was the need of the hour and theTea Board should take the lead. Negative publicity for tea should be countered forcefully".
