摘要

In order to cope with the increasing incidence of yield instability caused by climate change, agricultural practice will need to facilitate a high level of crop self-regulation. Furthermore, future crops will have to maintain or increase yield levelsand socio-ecological services while being less dependent on fossil fuel based inputs. One of the main factors in meeting these requirements is increased functional diversity on inter- and intra-species levels. The mechanisms underpinning the interactionbetween functional diversity, yield stability, and dependence on external inputs are not yet completely understood.
