Canine parvovirus usually affects young puppies and its early diagnosis become essential for controlling further spread of the disease among the healthy dogs. Several diagnostic techniques for detection of CPV have been evolved but they have varied sensitivity and specificity. The present paper compares the efficacy of HA-HI and ELISA tests for detection of canine parvovirus infection in serum and faecal samples. Faecal and blood samples were collected from 50 clinically suspected dogs suffering fromhaemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The HA and HI tests on faecal samples and HI on serum samples were performed as per method described by Carmichael et al. (1980). The HA unit of the viral antigen was 1:256 and the 4 haemagglutination unit (1:64) was used in the HI test. The indirect ELISA to detect serum antibody and sandwich ELISA to detect faecal antigen were performed as per the method of Kumar et al. (1991).
