Effect of water regime and fertilizer management on weed control in direct seeded rainfed rice

A field experiment was conducted at the Central Research Station of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar during the kharif seasons of 1992 and 1993. Results revealed that the total weed density could be drastically reduced in the treatment of 3.5 cm standing water 10 days after rice emergence (DARE) till flowering then moist till ripening (M_3) then all other water regimes at all the stages of crop growth. Split application of N was found more beneficial in checking the weed growth but P and K did not exhibit any significant influence. Highest grain yield (41.3 q/ha) was obtained under the treatment of moist till beushaning+3.5 cm standing water till flowering+moist till ripening which was significantly superior to all other treatments of water regime Similarly, application of full dose of P and half dose of N and K as basal+rest half of N and K at beushaning (F_3) recorded maximum grain yield of 43.9 q/ha.
