An advanced rapid healing technology, using direct oxygen/ natural gas flame impingement)patented Rapidfire~(?) heating system), provides heating rates of 200 deg F to 400 deg F/min. (for 3 to 4 in. dia. product) which are comparable to those of electric induction and considerably faster than conventional air/fuel fired furnaces. This rapid hearing technology, Figs. 1 and 2, can be advantageously used to heat material to forging temperature, and is ideally suited for continuous heating and surface heating of large parts. In addition, the system can be used in numerous steel mill applications, including edge heating, direct rolling, and billet reheating. Because of the extremely high heat transfer efficiencies, the rapid fire heating system increases production, reduces scale formation typically associated with conventional combustion systems and thereby realizes significantly higher yields and improved product quality. In addition, the system requires minimal initial heat up before operation. As a result, increased flexibility" for production scheduling and part-size changeovers are possible in the thermal processing of metals. Other benefits include low emissions and compact equipment size.
