Staples vs. Subcuticular Suture in Skin Closure in Caesarean Section-A Comparative Study

Objective : To compare between staples and subcuticular skin closure in caesarean section with regard to wound healing, post operative pain, cosmetic value and duration | of hospital stay. Design : Prospective study. Sample : Total two groups,30 in each group,patients were selected for caesarean section,in the Department of C&O,NRS Medical College, Kolkata,during a period of july2G11 to June 2012. Method : Patient fulfilling the inclusion criteria were randomly selected and recruited for the study afterprpper counselling and assigned to 1:1 parallel group.Detailed history taking and clinical examination.were done and divided into 2 groups one group for subcutioular skin closure with vicrylrapide and the other for stapler with metallic clip. The two groups of patients were compared on pain scale on 1st postoperative day, status of wound healing by noting the presence of tenderness, redness,swelling or temperature (signs of inflammation), wound discharge on 3rd and 5th postoperative day cosmetic value by participants satisfaction with wound appearance, using (visual analogue scale) at the time of discharge from hospitaland duration of hospital stay after operation! Result : Subcuticular skin closure has greater patient satisfaction than staple skin closure. Concision : vicrly rapide and metallic clip stapler were used in skin closure in "elective caesarean section and showed that subcuticular skin closure was associated with greater patient satisfaction.
