摘要

Infections of Central Nervous System especially meningitis continue to be a major concern for clinicians. Many a times the clinical is in a dilemma whether the case of meningitis he is dealing with is of bacterial especially partially treated or tubercular origin. It becomes even more distressing when the cerebrospinal fluid culture shows negative growth. Since the prognosis of diseases is tlosely related to the stage at which treatment is started it becomes quintessential to diagnose and treat the case at the earliest so that subsequent morbidity and mortality is reduced as Tuberculous Meningitis and Pyogenic meningitis require entirely different therapies.The diagnosis of Tuberculous meningitis is confirmed by the demonstration of acid fast bacilli in CSF by Ziehl-Nelsen or fluorescent dye (auramine o, rhodamine) staining and culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis which takes about 6-8 weeks.
