Effect of cultar on flowering, fruiting and fruit quality of mango cv. Langra

摘要

Mango is most important fruit of India, contributing about 62.2 percent of the total mango production of the world. However, our productivity (8.9 tonnes/ha) is very low in spite of great potential. There are a number of reasons for this dismal performance. Of them, alternate bearing is most important. Cultivar Langra suffers from alternate bearing habit like other cultivars (Ram and Sirohi, 11; Rain and Tripathi, 12; Desai and Chundawat, 5). To solve this, influence of gibberellins in growing shoots will have to be checked for flowering in following seasons (Pandey, 8; Chadha and Pal, 3). Cultar (Paclobutrazol), a gibberellin bio-synthesis inhibitor, has recently been demonstrated to induce flowering in a number of commercially important mango cultivars and in general, soil application is more effective (Ram and Sirohi, 11). Therefore, to overcome the problem of alternate bearing in mango cv. Langra, present study was carried out under Sabour conditions.
