摘要

Geochemical comparison of major, trace and rare earth elements among various bauxites and associated laterites of the world reveals lithogical (host rock) control on the concentrations of high-valued and rare earth elements. While bauxites developed over nepheline syenites and carbonates are rich in trace and rare earth elements, those of Karlapat North, the weathered derivatives of Khondalite, bear highest average concentration of Th among all the studied world deposits. A comparison of 44 elements in bauxites and laterites with their crustal abundances show occasional enrichment of V, Cr, Zr, Hf. Th, U and Ce between 5 and 15. times their crustal values in some of the deposits of the world.
