Field experiments were conducted during rabi 2006-07 and 2007-08 to evaluate 30 cultivars of tomato for resistance to early blight (caused by Alternaria solani) under natural disease incidence in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. At 90 days after transplanting (DAT), the mean of two years revealed that 4 cultivars were moderately resistant, 11 were moderately susceptible, and 15 were found susceptible to the early blight. The minimum percentage disease incidence (PDI) was recorded in DPL-T-9, BT-105, DPL-T-14 and DPL-T-4 (23.44, 23.60, 24.21 and 24.46%, respectively), and the maximum in CO-3 (70.94%). The mean yield in both years was highest in BT-105 (42.24 t/ha), followed by DPL-T-14 (40.82 t/ha), DPL-T-4 (39.54 t/ha), DPL-T-9 (38.88 t/ha) and Sonali (36.95 t/ha). Significantly the lowest yield was obtained from CO-3 (7.97 t/ha) at 90 DAT, followed by BL-333-1 (10.11 t/ha), BT-102-1-2-2 (12.12 t/ha) and BT-218 (12.65 t/ha).
