The yields of P. ostreatus, P. flabellatus, P. eous, P. platypus [Agaricus platypus], P. cornucopiae and P. columbinus grown in 11 waste materials (rice straw, sugarcane bagasse, maize stalk, mustard stick, pea haulms, coconut coir, waste paper, pine needles, banana pseudostems, rice husk and sawdust) were studied. The highest yields and biological efficiencies were recorded for P. ostreatus on rice straw (456.9 g and 91.4%, respectively), sugarcane bagasse (385.3 g and 77.1%), maize stalk (424.3 g and 84.9%), mustard stick (497.9 g and 99.6%), pea haulms (433.3 and 86.7%) and banana pseudostems (433.6 and 86.7%); P. flabellatus on coconut coir (356.4 g and 71.3%) and pine needles (206.3 g and 41.3%); and P. eous on rice husk (415.8 g). Significant sporophore production on waste paper (102.1 g and 20.4%) and sawdust (103 g and 20.6%) was exhibited by P. ostreatus only.
