Evaluation of antibiotics and their suitable use against bacterial blight of paddy [Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Ishiyama) Dye].

An experiment was conducted in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, during 2003, 2004 and 2005 to evaluate the efficacy of the following treatments against bacterial blight of rice: seed treatment (ST) with streptocycline and foliar spraying (FS) of streptocycline + blue copper (100 + 500 or 50 + 500 ppm); ST with streptocycline + FS of Paushamycin + blue copper (100 + 500 or 50 + 500 ppm); ST with streptocycline + FS with streptocycline + FS of streptocycline (100 ppm); ST with streptocycline + FS with Paushamycin (100 ppm); ST with streptocycline + FS of Kitazin (1000 ppm); ST with streptocycline; FS with streptocycline (100 ppm); and FS with Paushamycin. All the treatments significantly reduced the disease severity. ST with streptocycline (100 ppm) + FS of streptocycline in combination with copper oxychloride (100 + 500 ppm) was the most effective against the disease. ST with streptocycline (100 ppm) and 3 foliar application of streptocycline in combination with copper oxychloride was the most effective in minimizing disease incidence. The highest yield was obtained with ST with streptocycline and FS of streptocycline.
