ACCORDING TO THE car calendar, it's high time that the Mini Countryman had a mid-term refresh, even if 350,000 sales since 2010 - and more of them this year than last - suggest that buyers aren't greatly bothered. Despite the lack of enthusiasm from purists, the Countryman has been a storming success, taking Mini to a new kind of buyer and keeping the faithful in the fold as their kids grow up. For the new 2014 edition, Mini has made few major modifications, choosing instead to find ways to emphasise the Countryman's baby SUV credentials, a strategy that, it hopes, will move the model away from the Mini five-door hatchback, due to hit showrooms at the end of October, and minimise cannibalisation. There are new colours, including a Jungle Green 'hero colour', and there's a new, rugged exterior pack comprising scuff plates and sill protectors offered as an option on 4×4 models.
