The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG is one of those strange cars that seems to split opinion straight down the middle. Those who get it tend to love it to bits, revelling in its monstrous 355bhp performance and its Tonka-toy good looks. But those who don't get it often accuse it of being over-priced and not very comfortable, to say the least. So now we have 12 months with this car to find out. One year to establish whether the A45 AMG is worth what Mercedes charges for it in base trim (￡37,845) or not. To do this, we'll need to work out whether the good bits - its performance, handling, steering feel, cabin quality and packaging - are good enough to outweigh the supposed bad bits (hard ride, high price, two cylinders short of a picnic compared with its nemesis, the BMW M135i) with sufficient zeal to justify the somewhat extraordinary price.
