GM Europe's designers had to create an entirely new styling language before they could design the Insignia. The story started in 2005…General Motors' European design boss, Mark Adams, likes to portray the design evolution of GM's rule-changing Insignia mid-sized saloon as "a journey". The creation of any new car is complicated, he says, but it was especially so with the Insignia. After all, here was a chance to create a fresh design style that would signal the rebirth of the brand from the top down: an open brief to produce a new set of design cues that would be developed by the Insignia's successors.
