JSAE had remarkably smooth sailing in the first half century owing to the growth and the prosperity of Japanese automotive industries. The activities of JSAE still keep the highest level in quantitative indices such as the membership and the numbers of participants and papers in the spring and autumn conventions. However, it will be one of the inevitabilities of history that the revolutionary social change smashes the academic societies. Future problems for JSAE are to discuss the reason for being, to optimize the balance between volunteer activities of individual members and cooperative activities of supporting members, to produce schemes for the increase of social stock and to take part in educations.
