Attempts were conducted in Dehra Dun, India, to propagate Bambusa vulgaris var. striata through culm branch cuttings using various growth promoting substances. After 10-15 days of planting, there was bud burst and elongation of buds in all treatments. After 50-60 days of planting profuse rooting and sprouting was achieved. The best response in terms of survival (80%), rooting (75%) and sprouting (80%) was recorded in 100 ppm IBA. With regards to length of roots, maximum length (2.8 cm) was achieved in 100 ppm IBA + boric acid, while the maximum length of sprouts (9.6 cm) were seen in 100 ppm IBA.
