In vitro clonal propagation of T. indica was carried out through axillary bud sprouting and subsequent plant regeneration. Axillary shoot proliferation was obtained using nodal segments as explants. Cultures were established on MS medium supplemented with benzyladine (BAP) and kinetin (Kn) (at 0.5-3.0 mg/l) individually and in combination with NAA (at 0.1 and 0.5 mg/l), and regular sub-culturing was carried out in BAP (1.0 mg/l) at periodic intervals of 25 days. The highest number of shoots after 30 and 60 days was 2.63+or-0.23 and 4.63+or-0.26 in MS medium supplemented with 1.0 mg BAP and 0.1 mg NAA/l. The best rooting was observed in 1/2 strength MS medium having 0.5 mg IBA/l with the highest number of roots per shoot of 2.18+or-0.22 after 30 days and 3.27+or-0.42 after 60 days with root length of 0.62+or-0.07 cm and 8.22+or-0.15 cm after 30 and 60 days, respectively. The plantlets were successfully hardened and transferred to earthen pots.
