A field experiment was conducted during Kharif of 1989 at Soil Conservation Farm, C.S. Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur in RBD with 24 treatment combinations with 4 varieties each of urd (T-9, PU-30, UP-19, PDV-3) and lobia (EC-4216, NP-3, IL-450, T-5269) with 3 levels of phosphorus(0,30 and 60 kg ha~(-1)). The soil of experimental field was sandy loam having 58.7% sand, 20.8% silt and 19.7% clay. The soil had pH 7.7, organic carbon 0.35% total nitrogen 0.034%, available P_2O_518.33 kg ha~(-1) and available K_2O 173.0 kg ha~(-1), EC 0 28 dS m~(-1), bulk density 1 44 g cc~(-1) particle density 2.45 g cc~(-1), pore space 41 6%, permeability 4,95cm hr~(-1), WHC 35% and moisture equivalent 21.2 Varieties of lobia and urd were sown onAugust 3, 1989 using the seed @ 20 kg ha~(-1) and 15 kg ha~(-1), respectively. The crops were harvested on October 27 and December 7, 1989, respectively. The rainfall received during July, August, September, October, November and December was 129.7,87.6,240 6,32 7,3 Oand3 5 mm, respectively.
