Based on a pilot study, it is revealed that rabbit farming is a profitable enterprise which not only augments income by sale of wool (Angora) and meat but also gives an opportunity to raise the social status of farmers. In most of the developing countries rearing of livestock is one of the most important industries. Its importance in the national economy depends, on overall industrial development. Rearing of livestock has direct impact on rural economy. It not only provides valuable protein but also a livestock product like other species of livestock. Rabbit farming is an important source of income and gainful employment by sale of wool, skin and breeding animals. Rabbits are generally reared for the production of wool, meat and fur. Angora rabbit farming started in temperate part of India like Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. In the present-day world there is a growing demand of Angora wool. As such a need was felt to study the production and marketing of Angora wool. In this context the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute conducted a study in Kullu area in 1992-93 to examine these aspects. The present article gives mainly the systematic approach for estimation of cost of wool production, its disposal etc.The marketing aspect of Angora wool has also been studied to show the profitability of producer.
