摘要

SOYBEAN-wheat rotation is one of the predominant cropping systems followed on black soils of Madhya Pradesh. Black soils are generally phosphorus-deficient and need large inputs of phosphate fertilizers for profitable crop production. Fertilizer phosphorus, a non-renewable resource, is a costly input and farmers seldom apply adequate amount to meet fully the requirements of crops in a cropping system. Coupled with it is the problem of phosphorus fixation which is rather serious in heavytextured black soils. Thus, low plant available phosphorus status of these soils is a major constraint responsible for low productivity of soybean (606 kg/ha) and wheat (1 333 kg/ha) crops in Madhya Pradesh.
