In automobiles, the use of display Systems has been increasing. Furthermore, the elderly population is also rapidly increasing. This paper describes two approaches to improving display visibility based on visual functions. The one is an approachfor various driving environments, sod the other it an activity for elderly drivers. In the way of driving environments, luminance and chromatic saturation are decided based on luminance adaptation properties. In the method for elderly drivers, contrast of the display is improved by compensating the deterioration of two visual properties as aging: the contrast sensitivity concerning the spatial frequency sod the spectral transmittance of crystalline lens regarding the wavelength.
