At the dawn of the 21~(st) Century f the dairy industry which is one of the oldest industries in India is facing challenges as never before. Though India has achieved the distinction of being the largest milk producer in the world, it has to go long way to achieve world class quality and high standards of hygiene to comply with food safety management system. The present dairy industry set up represents a blend of public, cooperative and private sector dairies. Each sector has its own problems and potentials. If dairy industry is to survive in the ever increasing global competition and excelling in its quality and food safety approach, it has to seriously think of reorienting the paradigm of change. The change that encapsulates sound hygienic norms,good manufacturing practices, proactive food safety programme and quality management systems directed towards sound supply change management for economy and efficiency.
